I Cant...

So Positivity is something I pride myself in, and do my best to turn bad situations into good ones, so when I started this blog I decided I would only give tips and advice on how to avoid fashion faux pas instead of hating on them directly.  But..... today I have choose to be a negative Nancy instead of a positive Peggy, just for this post though :) The latest nothing to wear post will be on faux pas I JUST CAN'T HANDLE.  #1.Wearing Uggs with skirts, shorts, or capris.  It never fails for someone to show up on the first day of school wearing a denim skirt and Uggs. NO NO NO NO! Even though we live in a crazy weather climate you can never ever mix summer and winter ensembles together.  I also spot ladies wearing capri yoga pants with Uggs (showing a couple inches of their legs) when they go to the gym. Either you should wear longer pants, or just let your calves be cold on the walk from your car to the door.  Your hair and makeup can be a hot-mess, but just please don't wear your boots with cropped pants.   #2. Crocs.  I've tried to keep my hatred for Crocs held in so I don't offend people but I feel I'm doing America a favor by informing everyone of how terrible they are.  Unless your a baby or over the age of 60 and in the garden, please don't wear them.  I don't even feel like I need to explain why I hate them, their rubber shoes with holes in them, why?  What's worse then Crocs? Crocs with socks, don't ever expect to be on the best dressed list with that one.  #3. White pants in the winter.   People are so worried about their skin tones fading into the snow but apparently they aren't to concerned with their legs.  During spring, in warm parts of the country, with zero snow is my only exception for this one. And I suppose I'm ok with winter white or cream around Christmas time. You don't have to go as far as following the Labor/Memorial day rule, but basically is their still a chance of snow, save em for the summer.  I apologize for the rant, just trying to make the planet more fabulous ;) Now that I'm done being a negative Nancy my blog will be back to it's unicorn and sunshine self next week.

To Facial Hair or to Not Facial Hair

First off if your excited to read this post you can thank my brother Riley for suggesting it. Obviously I can't give you suggestions based on experience of  beards and mustaches, but  today I will give you my personal thoughts of them. A man can either have a great looking beard, or a beard that looks like something may be living in it, it's all about grooming. Girls don't grow out their hair without taking care of it, so guys should do the same.
If you don't do any form of trimming, shaping, washing, or combing, your facial hair card
Great Scruff!
will be revoked by me.  I'm pretty sure those people on wild Alaska even manage to shave every once and a while. You can still have a grungy some may say "hipster" beard without looking homeless.  John Leto does a good job of this.
So seriously take care of your self, it's not that difficult or expensive. My number one no no of facial hair is the multicolored beard. Brad Pitt's brown to gray ferret growing on his face was a hot mess! No thank you!

And to guys who can't grow a strong beard, who cares! If you can't grow a beard your probably not meant to have one :)   Also happy birthday shout outs to my mother and brother Dane this week! Thanks for supporting this fashionista even if you don't like my nose ring ;) http://www.pinterest.com/plus2point4/world-of-beard/

Flying and Fashionable

Yesterday I finally found my way to Florida for spring break 2014! Yay! So I know flying isn't glamorous; it's hot, your in tight quarters, your flustered from security. A lot of people choose to dress comfortable, but I'm not practical so I don't. Also my theory is you will sit next to someone extremely good looking while in your sweatpants, you may even run into a celeb....like I did 3 summers ago :( our FCCLA group was on the way back from California and had a layover in Arizona. If you watch One Tree Hill you know who Skillz (Antwon Tanner) is! Yes we found one of the celebs from my favorite shows ever and I was wearing sweatpants and a T-Shirt, not my favorite picture. AND, after I told my brother Dane what my blog was about he shared that he saw Kevin Costner in the Denver airport! For my travels I choose a black jumpsuit from target with my favorite jacket. I had my wedged sneakers on but the 5 hour delay in Atlanta drove me to change into sandals.  And I was comfy! Sorry the picture I provided was from a bathroom, I was desperate for a full length mirror!

Fargo's Own Upcycled Designer

Last Monday in class we had an amazing Fargo busniess woman come visit us, and tell us her story.   Ashley N. Dedin grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and recieved her degree in studio art and philosophy from Concordia.  Ashley always enjoyed sewing, but didn't enjoy the high  cost of fabric.  Ashley began shopping at thrift stores for clothing; she didnt just leave the store and wear it as is, she deconstruced the garment, took the fabric she liked, and made something new.  Amazingly Ashley does this without a pattern, instead she takes apart pieces that fit her well, figure out how they were constructed and go from there.  Ashley began selling her designs on Etsy, soon after she was asked to make a custom necktie.  Ashley had never sewn a necktie before but decided to dive into the project anyway.  With the success of her neckties, Ashley decided to open up her very own shop.  AENDEE is located in downtown Fargo along 8th street, a business in which ashley does everything from designing to accounting.  AENDEE sells bow ties, neckties, pocket squares, infinity scarves and much more.  Ashley also does custom work, this means you can bring in any shirt, maybe one of a  lost love one, or from someone who lives far away, and she will make a custom piece for you!  The picture below is of a father and son wearing ties made from their grandfather and great grandfather's jacket, how heart melting is that?! I think Ashley does beautiful work, check her store out next time your downtown!  I also have to link to her website posted below.

The Fear of Every Fashionista:Dresscodes

The first long term dress code I came in counter with was after my senior year.  In high school I was very active in FCCLA, and attended every national convention, but in 2012 they decided to add a dress code.  I am in no way hating on FCCLA, they probably made the best decision....I guess.  At the time I was devastated, I'm leaving Wheaton, the perfect chance to break out my latest fashion finds, but I'm confined to black or khaki dress pants, skirts that go to the knee, and red, white, or black polo or dress shirts. I bet the person that came up with this has never tried to find a skirt that goes to the knees of a girl that's 5'11" #impossible.  Let's be serious I'm NOT gonna follow this dress code without shaking things up. The words "dress code" just makes me shudder! Yuck I hate it! It's taking away my fashion freedom :( Most people would think I'm overreacting, but getting dressed is basically my only talent.  I'm not good at sports, or games, I'm good at spending money on fashion, and wearing it.  Thank goodness I didn't go to a private school (thanks mom and dad <3). BUT, there are ways to embrace yourself in the yucky regulations of a dress code...loopholes, loopholes, loopholes.  That's what you need to look for. I had a choice of white black or red for dress shirts at FCCLA.  No where in the rules did they say you couldn't where a white shirt with black stripes.  Now that's what you have to look for, clothing they didn't specifically say you could not wear. My shirt was black and white, shouldn't I get extra credit for covering half of the required color scheme. Another thing you can do is add your own flair to an outfit; scarves, flashy shoes, a new purse.  I paired a plain white dress shirt and black pencil skirt with a pair of cheetah heels.  Don't let a sad dress code bring you down! Make that dress code tailored to you!  Also for those who read my blog on manicures, I was eating at a restaurant when a nail salon owner came up and asked to take a picture of my nails.  That sure made my day!
