Saving Money and Mother Nature!
Think of a basic Hanes white T-shirt. Try to imagine how much work, effort, and natural resources go into making that t-shirt. It takes on average 700 gallons of water to produce your basic t-shirt. 700 GALLONS! That's insane! I've always tried to live a green life, but my shopping habits certainly aren't helping. I had no idea how big of an impact the clothing industry has on our planet. How can you help in reducing your carbon footprint you ask? Lots of ways! There are plenty of things one can do in order to stay stylish and live a green life. First try shopping at Plato's Closet or other gently used clothing stores. While your at it, bring the clothes you don't wear and try to sell them! Might as well try to make some cash out of the clothes you don't wear! Of course hit up those summer rummage sales once this nasty winter is over. And lastly, visit one of my very favorite places.......Savers! As you know from my previous post I made a vest out of an old $12 denim jacket. I recently finished a pair of high waist-ed shorts, and polished up a couple men's denim button ups! I'm seriously obsessed with denim and wear a chambray/denim shirt once or twice a week. I like to keep my stock of them on the up side so I went and checked out Savers. Why men's shirts? There baggy, long, and usually super soft! With my savers member card (yes it exists, and you should get one) my shirt only cost $2.00 (plus a little bleach), and it's honestly my new favorite piece in my closet! No lie! Yay for saving money and the environment!
